Tenerife is the perfect year round sunshine destination. It’s an island set in sparkling blue waters warmed by the sun and cooled by the soft sea breezes from the Ocean. It is the largest of the seven Canary Islands and the most populated island in Spain, nestled in the centre of the Canaries just over 180 miles from Africa’s coastline.

The island measures over 2000 sq km and enjoys a diverse and distinctive range of landscape ranging from the subtropical vegetation and vast pine forests of the Teide National Park to the volcanic landscape of Mount Teide summit. This is a striking piece of terrain providing fabulous walking territory amidst a unique lunar landscape, extremely popular with keen walkers. Mount Teide is from the base the third largest volcano in the world. The volcano has erupted four times in its history the last time was back in 1909. The summit of Mount Teide is over 12000 ft above sea level and is the highest point in all of Spain. The surrounding landscape of this dormant volcano acts as a natural divide between the lush green northern part of the island and the dry, sunny south of the island.

For those who like to shop and explore the historical sights then the vibrant typically Spanish city of Santa Cruz is the perfect place with its busy port life and Cruise ships, an abundance of ancient buildings and its chic boutiques and designer shops. The World Heritage site of La Laguna is also a gem of a find with its narrow cobbled streets and colourful buildings, its grand old villas and its quaint little shops. Similarly, the colonial town of La Oratava is another ‘must see’ with its flower-filled Plazas, Castilian mansions and cobblestone streets – there is so much more to this beautiful island than the neon lights of the south.

Beaches stretch for miles, with the north of the island famous for its black sandy beaches and the much loved Lago Martianez with its series of sea pools, making this an ideal place to head for a swim.  The beaches in the south of the island are in comparison fabulously white thanks to sand imported from the Sahara desert.

The two Canarian resorts we have hand-picked to feature in our Spanish Island collection are Costa Adeje and Puerto de la Cruz. Both have something to suit all ages and we feel offer the best accommodation on the island. Costa Adeje enjoys a number of first class leisure facilities including world class golf courses and excellent hotel facilities. There is also a good choice of up-market shopping centres and boutiques, impressive restaurants and an array of water parks and beaches. The resort of Puerto de la Cruz in the north of the island is much more of a lush and green setting. Originally an old harbour town it still maintains its charm with its cobbled streets and leafy plazas, open air restaurants and terrace bars from where you can sit back and watch the world pass by. Other well known attractions on the outskirts of Puerto de la Cruz is the family friendly Loro Parque with its dolphin and parrot shows and, the relaxing setting of the Botanical Gardens with its vast array of flora and fauna.

The island of Tenerife is served by two airports. The smaller airport of Los Rodeos can be found in the north of the island whereas Reina Sofia airport, in the south, receives many more international flights from around the world and is the busiest of the island’s two airports.

Daily flights are available from all UK regional airports with the option of choosing a scheduled, charted or low cost airline.
