Vietnam is an exhilarating country to visit, vibrant street life, exquisite food and epic landscapes await. Vietnam offers a diverse natural beauty, forested peaks, thundering waterfalls, and breezy coastline, so it’s no wonder the country is luring more and more nature lovers.

If you’re a culture seeker, the central cities of Hue and Hoi An are treasure troves, as is Hanoi, the country’s graceful capital and Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon with its captivating streets. The big contrast between old and new Vietnam is a big part of its appeal. In the cities, ancient pagodas squat just around the corner from sleek rooftop bars; and in the countryside, life still follows the rhythms of the rivers and the rice harvest.

If its sun, sand, and sea you are looking for Vietnam is home to countless inviting beaches, some are well known, others completely hidden and unspoilt.

Weather

There is not really a right or wrong time to visit Vietnam as most months of the year will experience both sunshine and rain in varying quantities. Vietnam has a tropical monsoon climate and the weather in Vietnam is dictated by two seasons - the southwest monsoon (hot and wet) from April to September and the northeast monsoon from October to late March (cool and not as wet).

Temperatures are fairly constant throughout, with the exception of Hanoi and the far north (which can be very cold in December and January) and the Central Highlands (which can be slightly cooler than the rest of the country year-round).

Generally speaking, destinations in the north such as Hanoi and Ha Long Bay are great in October, November and December, as there's little rain and mostly clear skies and temperate conditions. The coastal stretch from Hue down to Nha Trang is great in the first half of the year, from January through to July, while Saigon and the Mekong Delta are best from November through to February or March.
