Discover Alberta

Alberta shares the Rocky Mountain range with its neighbor British Columbia and the province also offers World Class ski resorts.  Originally known for supplying the crude oil industry, Alberta is now famous around the World for the Calgary Stampede, which showcases the area's 'Cowboy Culture.’

The Capital of Alberta is Edmonton and the city is annually the home of the Edmonton Folk Festival and the ‘Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, a UNESCO World Heritage site dedicated to preserving over 6000 years of Plains Buffalo Culture.

Alberta is also the home to two of the most beautiful National Parks in North America, Banff and Jasper, perfect for adventure sports in the Summer and offering World-Class Ski resorts in the Winter.

The vibrant town of Banff is located in the spectacular Banff National Park. For anyone seeking traditional Canadian hospitality then a visit to Downtown Banff is a must with its array of bars, live music, and a wide choice of restaurants that cater to all tastes and budgets.

A Tri-area lift pass is for many a popular choice and covers the three ski areas of Lake Louise ski (45 minutes’ drive), Mount Norquay (10 minutes’ drive), and Sunshine Village (25 minutes’ drive). There is also a frequent ski bus service, included with a pre-booked Tri-area lift pass, which operates from a good selection of the Banff hotels to all three ski areas. Although Mt Norquay is often referred to as Banff’s “local” hill, the resort should not be under-rated.

There is a good mix of easy trails as well as some more challenging ones which include; Memorial Bowl, Temptation, and Lone Pine. Sunshine Village has some of the highest skiing in Canada. It has three mountains: Mount Standish, Lookout Mountain (high above the tree line with views across the Great Divide), and Goat’s Eye (with some of the best tree skiing on its lower slopes).

The natural hub for travel to Western Canada and the Canadian Rockies. But beyond the region's famed western flair and spectacular natural beauty, Calgary is emerging as a popular urban destination. Calgary is home to world-class attractions and festivals, and a culture of hospitality that welcomes visitors from all over the globe.

The Calgary Stampede, which draws a million visitors a year, is just one of many outstanding Calgary attractions. The region offers a striking variety of natural landscapes within easy day-tripping distance: Banff and Kananaskis are less than an hour and a half west by bus, while the famed badlands and dinosaur beds of Drumheller are less than two hours east.

The town of Drumheller is located in the province of Alberta in Canada, within striking distance of the city of Calgary. Home to the World’s Largest Dinosaur – a 26-metre replica Tyrannosaurus Rex – Drumheller is an excellent place to visit for those with an interest in prehistoric life.

The Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology is one of the greatest dinosaur museums in the world, including a 67 million-year-old T-Rex skeleton and the chance to witness the interesting operations of the fossil laboratory. Elsewhere, the Atlas Coal Mine is a National Historic Site offers guided tours of its early 1900s facilities, and there are excellent hiking trails available in nearby Horseshoe Canyon.

This area of Alberta’s badlands is full of spectacular geological formations and offers visitors the chance to glimpse the Northern Lights (August to April)

Set on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River, the attractive town of Edmonton is the capital of Alberta Province.

For a good dose of culture, head to the downtown Arts District, where you’ll find theatres, concert halls, and live music venues on almost every corner, or to find out more about the area’s heritage, head to Fort Edmonton Park – a ‘living history museum’ where the past has been artfully recreated in displays set in original old streets and buildings.

If you’re a sports fan, check what’s on at the Commonwealth Stadium, where an array of major sporting events are hosted.

Grande Prairie

Situated in northwestern Alberta, Canada, Grand Prairie is set in the heart of Peace River Country. There is a wide variety of wonderful activities and attractions in and around the town. Visitors can channel their inner paleontologist at the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum, which offers a glimpse into the prehistoric history of the area; and discover the bonebed at Pipestone Creek, which is abundant with fossils.

Biking enthusiasts can look forward to exploring the vast network of paved biking trails at Muskoseepi Park. Other highlights include the Eastlink Centre, the Grande Prairie Stompede, and the Kleskun Hill Museum.

This welcoming and delightful little resort is a haven for wildlife lovers and skiing is just around the corner at the nearby Marmot Basin located in the stunning Jasper National Park. Glittering forests, frozen lakes, glaciers, and waterfalls form the backdrop for a range of activities from ice canyon walks and dog-sledding to the wildlife safaris, plus the ski areas of Jasper are renowned for uncrowded slopes and dry powder snow.

At 1700 metres, Marmot boasts the highest base elevation of all Canadian ski resorts and enjoys frequent heavy snowfall when it’s raining in the valley. Jasper offers a choice of lively bars and restaurants, a friendly atmosphere plus a direct 20-minute bus ride from your hotel to the slopes.
