Five Days in Crete

Posted in Travel Writing by Alison Houston on 1st Jun 2022

After an evening flight into Chania, on the north side of Crete, we had a private transfer to our first hotel Domes Zeen. Here we enjoyed a welcoming check-in, before a late dinner at the Beach House Restaurant with a refreshing glass of local wine. We then proceeded to our suite for the evening where we relaxed on the terrace overlooking our private pool. Having a beachfront location and being a short distance from Chania Town, I feel that this hotel is suited for couples and families with younger children.

With an early wake-up call from the local cockerel, we enjoyed a light breakfast before our day of hotel visits and a fabulous tour of Rethymnon, a town of winding streets lined with local tavernas and bars oozing with Venetian architecture.

Following on from our tour of Rethymnon we visited Domes Noruz, an adults-only hotel perfect for couples wanting a modern, relaxed beachfront hotel, before travelling further along the coast. Here we arrived at Grecotel Lux Me White Palace, which really has the wow factor with stunning all-white interiors and exteriors. The facilities are extensive and a perfect all-inclusive hotel with an abundance of dining options.

We stayed the night at the fabulous Grecotel Caramel, a boutique hotel with only 69 rooms, all featuring slightly different designs in each. Families with young children, couples or friends would enjoy the peacefulness of this hotel.

Next on our agenda included a visit to my all-time favourite boutique hotel, St Nicholas Bay. Authentic Greek luxury would sum up my description, and immediately I felt relaxed, taking in the stunning seafront location, outdoor dining alongside a small chapel, and a relaxing sandy cove. Families with children are welcome, however, I feel it's perfect for friends and couples.

Our next stop was a stay at the contemporary Daios Cove which boasts one of the best spas and sports facilities I have experienced in Europe. When staying at Daios Cove, I would highly recommend upgrading to the all-inclusive Residence package, as it allows you to have the freedom to enjoy all the food and facilities and not to mention ‘The Clumsies’, a  specialist cocktail menu Daios Cove offers. The following morning, after starting the day with a delicious breakfast on my terrace overlooking the stunning Daios Cove backdrop, we proceeded to Elounda.
