When we arrived home from our Alaskan Silversea Cruise and Canada tour, my wife’s response to ‘how did the holiday go?’ was simply ‘it was the best holiday ever’. A lot of that was down to Prestbury’s ability to interpret my vague idea of what we wanted (in terms of a first ever cruise) and the quality of accommodation and travel that we sought, the précis being ‘luxury and comfort without ostentation’.
The Canadian part of the holiday from Calgary to Vancouver was all superb, from the quality of accommodation to the smoothness of the transfers. ‘Fairmont Gold’ in Vancouver was just the right touch and when we arrived off one of two coaches from the Rocky Mountaineer the separate check-in on the Fairmont Gold floor meant that we were in our room within five minutes and having a refreshing drink and snack in the Fairmont Gold lounge.
The Silversea cruise was something else! We had heard horror stories of the length of time it can take to check in on some cruise ships. Ours took less than 15 minutes, including US immigration (where do they find such humourless people!) and five minutes later we were in our suite which was lovely; my wife Lin was delighted with the hanging wardrobe and drawer space! We had a bottle of champagne and the suite was decorated with balloons and congratulations banners, as it was our golden wedding anniversary. Simply put, the cruise was a delightful experience, I can see why people book up for another cruise before they finish the one they’re on! I’ll finish where I started as we both agree that this was quite simply the ‘best holiday ever’ and we thank you for the part you played in making it happen.
