First impressions are lasting impressions at Sandy Lane, Barbados
As the pinnacle of luxury, Sandy Lane is a big talking point at Prestbury Worldwide Resorts, so I was thrilled and excited to discover that I would be visiting this prestigious resort. As a ‘first timer’ I eagerly anticipated whether this hotel would match or exceed my high expectations.
First impressions are lasting impressions and Sandy Lane did not disappoint. As we drove towards the hotel entrance, my first impression was of the pristine gardens and a drive lined with Rolls-Royce’s, it felt so luxurious and I hadn’t even stepped into reception!
Upon arrival I was met by the concierge team who greeted me with a cold peppermint towel (which in 30 degree heat I was very happy to receive) and a refreshing beverage. It was here that I took in the panoramic views over the resort, the sparkling Caribbean Sea and the signature Sandy Lane pink umbrellas dotted about; it was at this moment I knew I had arrived!
Throughout the hotel I really noticed the little details such as beautiful pictures painted into the tiles. I had wondered about the meaning behind the room names, such as Orchid Rooms and Dolphin Suite, which became clear when in the Orchid wing there were pictures of orchids in the lift and on the tiles adding a subtle nod to the room names. Once inside, the rooms exude an immediate feel of luxury and offer the perfect mix of the traditional luxury combined with lovely modern twists – I loved that you can even shut the curtains from the comfort of your bed using a tablet! There is a lovely outdoor space to unwind and relax with a book while looking out to the pristine gardens and a wardrobe area so big it’s every woman’s dream!
As a spa lover the Spa at Sandy Lane really took my breath away. At 47,000 square feet it was by far the biggest spa I have seen, with an impressive staircase leading down to a range of treatment rooms where you could easily spend the day and simply float back to your room. At the other end of the spectrum, the children’s ‘Treehouse Club’ is a fun and lively place. It was refreshing to see so many children having fun enjoying arts and crafts or socialising around the table-tennis table. One little girl was delighted to be taking away a bead doll she had made which was a lovely memento of her stay.
Lunch time is such a treat at Bajan Blue, which enjoys cool breezes and the most gorgeous view of the beach and sea beyond. Here, the popular Sunday buffet brunch is served with every conceivable food, from succulent seafood, a sushi bar, pasta, salads and every type of vegetable dish right up to the full and varied carvery roasts, followed by gorgeous desserts, there is even an authentic pizza oven! We dined from the a la carte menu where I indulged on Scottish smoked salmon, followed by the catch of the day snapper fish which was so fresh and light I could have eaten it again! For dessert we had their famous ice cream and wow it was superb!
For guests who may still be feeling peckish, afternoon tea is served on the terraces overlooking the resort, (and what a spread!) with a mouth-watering choice of cakes, pastries, sandwiches and a variety of teas, I would highly recommend everyone experiences this at least once during their stay.
After lunch we visited the Country Club, perfect for any keen golfer, there was a pro shop and a restaurant serving light leisurely lunches after a round of golf. The golf course was exquisite you can see how well maintained the course is with such a peaceful atmosphere. There is also the famous Green Monkey course and even if you’re not a golfer I would recommend a visit as the views are gorgeous.
Too soon my time here was over but what I had gained was a wonderful insight into this fabulous resort. From the immaculate grounds to the outstanding service from every member of staff, it’s clear why so many clients return to Sandy Lane year after year, often booking a year in advance to secure their stay. If only I was one of them!
