Salalah is the capital of the province of Dhofar in Southern Oman, with cultural sights including the Museum of Frankincense, the ruins of the Palace of the Queen of Sheba and the Bin Ali Mosque, which itself has an 800 year old history.
Salalah is a subtropical area and has a monsoon season starting in June and the result of this is displayed from June to September, when the desert landscape is transformed before your very eyes, with seasonal waterfalls, lush greenery and beautiful sandy beaches. Don't let the monsoon season put you off visiting at this time, it is the best time to go, although called a monsoon, the rainfall isn't extreme and the weather is hot.

May is the hottest month in Salalah with an average temperature of 29.5°C (85°F) and the coldest is January at 22.5°C (73°F). The wettest month is August with an average of 40mm of rain. .
