Use the drop-down menu below to explore Galtur.
The charming little community of Galtür (1585m) - dubbed an “Alpine idyll“ by the writer Ernest Hemingway in 1926 – is the highest ski village in the Austrian Silvretta region. It could hardly be more different from the party town of Ischgl six miles down the Paznaun Valley (reachable by a free bus link). The Silvapark ski area near this charming and traditional village is ideal for families and mixed-ability groups, and there’s a high level of service in the restaurants and hotels.
The resort has an excellent snow record: the slopes, accessed from the nearby hamlet of Wirl, reach 2295m (7,530ft) and are served by nine lifts including two fast chairs and an eight-seater gondola. The slopes are typically uncrowded and there‘s little queuing for the lifts. Most of the 43 km of pistes are red runs, but there are plentiful off-piste challenges too, plus a memorable two-mile black run and night-skiing on Wednesdays.
