Use the drop-down menu below to explore Galtur.
Dubbed an Alpine idyll by the writer Ernest Hemingway in 1926, this charming little community of Galtür sits at 1585m and is the highest ski village in the Austrian Silvretta region. The Silvapark ski area closeby this traditional, charming village is perfect for families and mixed-ability groups, plus there is a high level of service in the restaurants and hotels. Also, the party town of Ischgl is only six miles down the Paznaun Valley which is reachable by a free bus link from the village.
Galtür has an excellent snow record, the slopes are accessed from the nearby hamlet of Wirl that reaches a height of 2295m (7,530ft) and are served by nine lifts including two fast chairs and an eight-seater gondola. Most of the 43 km of pistes are red runs and there are plenty of off-piste challenges, plus a memorable two-mile black run and night-skiing on Wednesdays.
